Global Money Week 2018- March 12-16, 2018
ATTIC is a part of a Steering Committee to develop and implement a National Financial Education Strategy for TT. Other stakeholders are BATT, National Financial Literacy Programme (NFLP), T&T Credit Union League, Financial Literacy Secretariat, Tobago House of Assembly, Securities Commission of Trinidad & Tobago and the T&T Stock Exchange. The OFSO is the national coordinating body along that is responsible for pulling together these various entities to create a holistic strategy.
For Global Money Week 2018, this is the first time Trinidad & Tobago will be participating in this Global initiative. This year we will join more than 140 countries around the world in teaching children in a fun environment about financial literacy.
Event- Launch and signing of an MOU –National Financial Education Committee Monday March 12, 2018
It would also mark the Committee’s first financial literacy initiative-Global Money Week 2018-theme-Money Matters Matter- This initiative is geared towards educating the youth on financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
Financial literacy must begin at an early stage, as it is a critical life skill. The main thrust of the committee’s work will be to increase the financial capability particularly among the economically disadvantaged.
Other Events During the Week:
For the first year the committee decided to target schools who usually do not get the opportunity to engage and participate in such initiatives.
- Tuesday March 13th , the Committee heads to Tobago to host 250 children. This would take place in the form of an exposition, where there will be also be a theatrical production. (ATTIC/TTII will not be in Tobago)
- Wednesday March, 14th, 45 students from Tobago will come to Trinidad on a business tour.
- Friday March 16th, Trinidad would host 500 secondary school children from across the country at the Central Bank promenade. This would take place in the form of an exposition, where there will be also be a theatrical production and interactive multimedia activities.
