Director

Mr. Romany is currently the President of Guardian General Insurance Limited (GGIL) and serves as a Director on many boards within the Guardian Group and other regional bodies. He was appointed to this position in 2018. Prior to this, he served as Group Chief Risk Officer for Guardian Holdings Limited. Among his many roles within the Guardian Group included a number of executive positions. Mr. Romany has over thirty (30) years of industry experience starting as a Technical Advisor at Caribbean Home Insurance Company Limited. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII).

Samanta Saugh
Vice President - Life

Samanta brings to this role a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the Life, Health and Pension business segment, making her well-suited to lead the company into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Saugh joined the Guardian Group in 2018 as vice president of finance. And in May 2022, Saugh was appointed interim group chief financial officer before being appointed permanently in the role in July 2022.

Over the last two years Samanta worked closely with the Group’s leadership team and the board to execute its clear strategy and to build on the Group’s strong financial footing.

Saugh is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds an Executive Master of Business Administration with distinction from the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business, The University of the West Indies.

Her career, spanning over 20 years, has been predominantly in management within the financial services sector. Prior to joining the group, Samanta worked in various senior roles where her portfolio included strategy, financial and management reporting, operations, post-sales support, taxation, budgets, risk management, projects, IT and regulatory compliance spanning Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Eastern and Northern Caribbean.

Musa Ibrahim
Vice President - General

Musa Ibrahim is currently the Managing Director of TATIL. He is ACCA certified and has specialized in the Financial Services Industry for 20 years. He also currently serves on a number of Boards such as Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Institute, Insurance Association of the Caribbean (IAC) where he is also Chairman of the Training & Education Arm of the IAC. Additionally, Musa is the current Chairman of the Audit Committee of Ansa Automotive. He has worked for market leading organisations in the financial sector and has held top level positions inclusive of CFO, Finance Director and Executive Director.

Paul Traboulay
Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Traboulay, a renowned insurance industry stalwart brings a wealth of regional and international
experience in change management, Strategic and operational Enterprise risk management, Corporate
transformations and stakeholder engagement strategy. He has also held several leadership positions in
reinsurance broking, property, casualty, Life insurance services, Pensions business, risk and asset
management.
During the span of his career, Paul has been a trusted advisor on matters of governance, compliance,
merger and acquisition activity and capital efficiency. He has overseen the divestment of major
insurance operations and the implementation of IFRS 17, as well as supervised actuarial, financial and
operational teams across regional markets. His impact extended across a wide spectrum of initiatives—
from digital transformation and IT restructuring to spearheading shared services models and supporting
strategic acquisitions, amalgamations and divestments.
Mr. Traboulay has rendered yeoman service to the insurance industry, having served on the directorship
of ATTIC’s Board for eighteen (18) years. During his tenure as President, the ATTIC Head Office and
Training Centre was acquired in 2018 at 46 – 50 Picton Street, Newtown, Port – of – Spain, which was a
major milestone for the industry. Paul has also been an exemplary and active member of the industry
having provided major technical inputs to allow for the passage of the Insurance Act 2018 (as amended),
the National Economic Recovery Plan Post Covid and several Industry Legal, Taxation and Capital
management initiatives. He has also served as the Chairman of the JSC and continues to support the
industry with his stellar contributions.

Robert Trestrail
Director

Robert Trestrail is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sagicor Life Inc. Robert joined the Sagicor Group in 2001 and has held several Executive positions throughout his tenure with Sagicor. Currently as President and Chief Executive Officer of SLI, Robert serves on several Boards within the Sagicor Group.

With 30 years of experience in the Insurance and Financial Services Industry, Robert has served the private sector in Trinidad & Tobago as President of the Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce (TTCIC) and a Board member of The Chamber for over 12 years. He has served as a Member of the Appeal Tribunal of the National Insurance Board, a Director of the Association of Insurance Companies in Trinidad & Tobago and presently holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Institute (TTII).

Yasid Gilbert
Director

Yasid Gilbert is the General Manager – Long Term Insurance Services at Maritime Life (Caribbean) Limited, where he is responsible for the joint execution of the Company’s strategy across all aspects of life insurance operations, including Underwriting (Life & Annuities), Reinsurance & Claims, Client Care, Actuarial, and Financial and Statutory Reporting.

Mr. Gilbert has 18 years of experience in the life insurance industry, all within the Maritime Group. He joined the Company directly out of University in 2008 as Actuarial Manager, where he worked extensively on actuarial valuations, product pricing, reinsurance arrangements, and portfolio acquisitions, before being appointed General Manager in 2019. In his current role, he leads the Group’s multi-line and multi-channel distribution strategy, oversees P&L management, and has served as project sponsor for the implementation of IFRS 17 across the Group’s Life and Property & Casualty operations, to name a few.

He holds a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo, with a focus in Actuarial Science, Finance and Statistics, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from George Brown College, Toronto. He has also completed several leadership and executive courses at Columbia Business School and MIT, and is a certified ISO 31000 trainer in Enterprise Risk Management. He is currently pursuing an MBA and the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

Maxim Marquez
Vice President- Life

Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies and an MBA from the Henley Business School. Entered into the Insurance industry in June 1992 as an agent with Guardian Life of the Caribbean and was prompted to a Unit Manager in 1997. In 2005 was recruited by Maritime Life as an Agency Manager. In 2010 he moved his agency to Algico/Met Life and was subsequently offered the position as Vice President, Regional Director of Agencies in 2013 with the Pan American Life Insurance Group.

He has won several Company and Industry Awards and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and was the Local Chairperson for Trinidad and Tobago in 2000 and 2001. He has served as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers (TTAIFA) and well as the Caribbean Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers (CARAIFA) where he served for two terms. In 2017 he was inducted into the TTAIFA Hall of Fame.He is responsible for the developing and managing the strategic initiatives and plans for the Agency distribution, sales and marketing in the Caribbean for 25 agencies with 5

Anthony Shaw

Mr Anthony who currently holds the position of General Manager, TATIL Life is responsible for developing and executing a suite of strategic objectives, including the implementation of a new IT system.

Anthony has over 25 years of knowledge and experience in the insurance industry. He was also Vice President of one of the largest regional Life insurance companies, where he had regional responsibility for New Business, Underwriting, Reinsurance and Agent Compensation.

He is the holder of a Bachelor of Arts in Administrative and Commercial Studies, and a Major in Finance and Economics, from the University of Western Ontario.

Sharon Bynoe
Director
Sharon Bynoe is a graduate of the University of Guyana, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She currently serves as the General Manager of NAGICO Insurance (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited, a role she has held since 2015. Prior to this appointment, she served the organization as Chief Accountant and Company Secretary, delivering strong financial stewardship and corporate governance leadership.
Sharon is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) with more than thirty (30) years of experience in the insurance industry, spanning both general and life insurance. Prior to joining NAGICO in 2012, she spent eighteen (18) years at CLICO – Guyana, more than a decade of which was in managerial roles. During this time, she enhanced her professional expertise through a range of leadership development programmes both locally and internationally. Her involvement on several key internal committees; including Claims and Underwriting; further deepened her understanding of the operational and technical aspects of the industry.  *She also serves as a director on the Board of Governors for The Trinidad and Tobago Insurance Institute (TTII).
Sharon is an active member of the Rotary Club of Port of Spain – West. Guided by the organization’s motto, “Service Above Self,” she remains committed to service, volunteerism and the mentorship of young people.
Baliram Sawh
Director

Mr. Baliram Sawh is the General Manager – General Insurance Services of the Maritime Financial Group. With over 25 years of experience in the Insurance Industry, his portfolio includes setting rates, establishing company guidelines, negotiating reinsurance treaties and underwriting select risks. He is one of a select group of persons in Trinidad who is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). Mr. Sawh was elected to ATTIC’s Board in 2005.

Dexter McKnight
Director

Dexter joined the insurance industry in 1984 (via a scholarship) and became a qualified Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London in 1989. Over the years he has held several positions within the industry and joined Sagicor in March 2004 as Assistant Manager – Underwriting. Presently he holds the position of the Vice President – Insurance Operations of Sagicor General Insurance Inc., Trinidad Branch. He is responsible for underwriting a high quality of renewal and new business for the Branch as well as ensuring SGI’s philosophy on claims is well articulated and executed. Dexter has been a part time lecturer for many years in all aspects of General Insurance. Over the years he has conducted several in-house programmes as well as given back to the industry by lecturing in various programs.
